The Mayor of Mumbai is the first citizen of the Indian city of Mumbai. The person is the chief of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, but his/her role is largely ceremonial as the real powers are vested in the Municipal Commissioner. The Mayor also plays a functional role in deliberating over the discussions in the Corporation. [1]Shraddha Jadhav (belonging to the Shiv Sena political party) is the current Mayor of Mumbai.[2].

The current mayor is Shraddha Jadhav of the Shiv Sena, elected in 2009 with 114 votes against her opponent from the Congress, Priscilla Kadam who got 95 votes.[3]
The designation of the President of the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai was changed into that of Mayor, Bombay Municipal Corporation from November 1931.
He/She is elected from within the ranks of the council in a quinquennial election. The elections are conducted in all 227 wards in the city to elect corporators. The party that wins the maximum number of seats holds an internal voting to decide the mayor.
